Sojourner Truth North Hill Toastmaster Club

June 11 @ 7:00 am - 8:30 am

Toastmasters is a nonprofit educational organization celebrating its 100th anniversary. Open to anyone 18 years and older, participation helps members build confidence and learn public speaking skills through a worldwide network of clubs. In a supportive community, members prepare and deliver speeches, share their stories, respond to impromptu questions, and give and receive constructive feedback. It is through this regular practice that members are empowered to meet personal and professional communication goals. Founded in 1924, the organization is headquartered in Englewood, Colorado with approximately 270,000 members in more than 14,200 clubs in 148 countries. www.toastmasters.org

According to club founder, Trish Ostroski, the club name honors Akron history as it reflects one of the most famous speeches in American history as delivered by Sojourner Truth in Akron, Ohio. This is especially timely as a special plaza has been dedicated to this historic figure just across the bridge from North Hill in downtown Akron. In addition, North Hill has gained recognition as an International City of Peace. Enhancing that designation the club will assist in building communication skills of speaking, listening and understanding which are meaningful for peace and friendship as well as strong community connection. So, Sojourner Truth North Hill Toastmasters club is born. We are grateful for the support of the North Hill Community Development Corporation for their support and encouragement to bring this program to the community. https://northhillcdc.org.
